Yellow bird

Look at this guy! This little family has recently moved into a small self-built house outside my bedroom window.
I’ve been trying to catch them with the camera to show you the bright colors, it’s beautiful!
The bird has not been very interested in sitting still and posing for a picture but I managed to get some nice ones, and also a good number of pics with just a blurry, yellow ball leaving the picture…

In honor of the bird I wouldn’t mind matching him wearing this yellow feather dress from Versace.

Jacaranda

We are going towards lighter times south of the equator, this means, lighter clothes. It is still quite cold in the mornings but the days are stunning with sun shine and around 20-25 degrees. Perfect.
In the month of October the Jacaranda trees will be in full bloom in Johannesburg, I’m really looking forward to this period. I haven’t seen it in a couple of years.
I will load my camera and take a tour around to show you guys. Johannesburg is the largest man-made forest in the world.
The Jacaranda trees were imported from South America around a 100 years ago and have given Johannesburg the nickname of "Jacaranda city". I will of course match my blouse with the trees then as well.

Mad men

I saw this dress on Mad Men that Betty was wearing, I really liked it but couldn’t find the make of it anywhere online.
Anyone knows? I decided to try to make a similar one. I tried to find the "pucci-like" perfect fabric but this is the closest I could get. It turned out ok I think.Do you like it?

Arts on Main

Today was a perfect Sunday. Started with breakfast with Paul, Nadia and Lea and then followed by a visit to “Arts on Main”.
It’s an old building down town joburg where they have converted the whole block to a really funky art scene. A courtyard with restaurants and music, art, locally made products, small shops etc.
You can have freshly roasted Ethiopian coffee and a great variety of baked delish! The afternoon was as per usual these days spent reading on the terrace in the sun. For once I decided to get some sun on my extremely pale face. Put 50 on and sat for 25 minutes. Freckles started to appear at once.

Holiday

Hopefully holiday! If everything works out to my advantage I will be lying on a beach bed within a couple of weeks on this island. Preferably with some new nice vacation wear as well...or I can dream at least.

Dinner time

Yesterday a good friend of ours cooked dinner in my kitchen. Proper dinner. Delicious meat with classic veggies and potatoes and a feta cheese sauce. Very impressive.

Food is, as you might have discovered, a very important thing in my life. I don't really know why this is. I always liked cooking but I was never particularly good at it. My mother is an amazing cook though so I'm hoping I will grow into it more. She will start to prepare Sunday dinner on Saturday.

When living permanently in Nigeria we had a gas oven, this was always a buzz-kill for me. It is so much trickier baking and preparing food in the oven when you cant estimate the time and the heat. There I usually would prepare much more cold dishes for dinner, also because of the climate being hot and humid you didn't really have a craving for hot and heavy food.

What I miss about Nigeria is all the fresh fruits available. Mango, Pineapple, Coconut (my favorite) and Papaya. Of course we have it here as well but it tastes so much nicer when grown in the wild.

Relaxing Sunday

Västerbotten cheese pie and a sneak peak of the view from the new roof terrace. Ill give you more pictures later. This weekend has just flown away, like usual. It has been stunning weather here, the evening are chilly but the days are like a warm Swedish summer day. You can feel the air is a bit cold though. What have you been up to this weekend? We are finally able to relax a bit during the weekends, it has previously been filled with shopping to the house renovation, such as tiles, cement, plants, furniture etc. It is a lot of fun of course but also a bit tiring. Very happy to be close to the final goal.
