Winelands

One of my favorite parts of Cape town is the wine lands outside, such as Stellenbosh and Franschhoek. It villages located but the foot of a stunning mountain range and you can just drive for hours and hours without getting tired. Pop in and have lunch at a local winefarm.

The common room

Cape town and Franschhoek has shown itself from its best side this time, as usual.
One of the highlights so far has been the common room restaurant in Franschhoek. It’s a rather small bistro style restaurant located in the middle of the wine district outside Capetown. Probably the best food I have eaten in a long time. Its sister restaurant "The Tasting room" located next door is ranked as the 36th best restaurant in the world.

Safari-town

Approximately 2h drive from Joburg (close to 3 hour drive if you take the wrong exit on the highway…) Kwa Maritane is situated in the private game reserve of Pilanesberg.
The creation of the Pilanesberg National Park is considered one of the most ambitious programmes of its kind to be undertaken anywhere in the world. Thanks to Operation Genesis in 1979, which involved the game-fencing of the park and the re-introduction of many long-vanished species, the park now has in excess of 7,000 animals including 24 of the larger species. The so called “Big 5” can be found in the park. Lion, leopard, black and white rhino, elephant and buffalo, they are called the big 5 becouse they are the 5 hardest animals to hunt by foot.
We stayed at KwaMaritane, my favorite bush lodge.

Cape Town

Touched down in Camps Bay for Christmas day. 28 degrees and sunny skies.

I forgot to show you! We went to this amazing place in Laguna Beach, Balboa Island, where you could make your own mixed ice cream. You started with choosing the flavor of the ice cream and then all the toppings you could imagine! I use to work at an ice cream parlor called Fjällis Kaffestuga a couple of summers ago and during that summer I developed a constant and never ending crawing for ice cream in all shapes and forms.

Bead it!

I love Nigerian beads, I have them around to spread some happiness for anyone that sees them. Arnt they stunning? I bought these ones at a local market outside Lagos a couple of months back. They come in the most amazing colors and are made out of beaten up glass.

Painting from Naija

Hi!

Do you remember that I bought a textile painting on the beach in Naija?
I have now framed it and hung it in SA.
This picture doesnt do it justice of course. The colours, the size etc. I love it!
Gives a good splash of colour to the otherwise quite white house...

Sunday morning

Went for a walk early this morning, a bit jet lagged still from the trip. Came back and made a proper breakfast and bought sundays newspaper.
Enjoy your Sundays!

Lukas!

This is my brother Lukas. He is my youngest oldest brother and we have had uncountable fun times together growing up. Unfortunately I don't see him and his wife nearly as often as I would like. When growing up Lukas was always the peace maker and would (almost) always take my side!! :)
Happy Birthday Lukas!! Hope that you will have a fantastic day!

EVERYONE in Los Angeles are health freaks, yes that is a generalization. That said, a lot of people think about what they eat and work out a lot.

We have come across many different life style diets these past week. One that I really liked was organically grown diet. This could be eaten at True Food Kitchen, their meals where organically grown. I had dumplings with cheese inside. Well worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood.

Washed away

Some times when I travel I try to stop by a laundryomat to do a washing before travelling back home, I don’t like arriving home with a suitcase of dirty clothes.

Its nicer to unpack clean, folded clothes. And, it’s a cultural experience as well that I quite enjoy… When I was sitting and waiting for my clothes to dry a lady in a bright red suit walked in, she looked around and then approached the pinball machine which was put in the corner for washers to use while waiting for their clothes to be done. She played for at least 45 minutes (I left after that). As far as I could see she didn’t have any laundry, she just liked pinball! Isnt that funny! When I left she didnt look like she was leaving anytime soon.

There is usually also vending machines that you can use to buy washing detergent, I managed to buy 75 cent worth of laundry bags instead.

Crystal Cove State Park

Sun rise walk in a national park in Laguna Beach. We are still a bit jetlagged and decided to go for a morning walk. As you can imagine (a picture is never the same as the real thing) it was amazingly beautiful! We timed it perfectly and reached the highest point of the walk just as the sun climbed over the mountain. Good morning!

Dolphins

The view from our hotel room. We are living in OC (Orange County) in an area called New Port Beach. It is picturesque town with a "small town" feeling over it. Its right on the beach. Yesterday we saw 20 dolphins cutting through the waves! With the palm trees and the blue, blue ocean and the dolphins jumping it looked like an eighties poster...

All in

My christmas feelings is increasing by the second...

Soup on a nail

Had a fantastic spicy wild muchroom soup with a view yesterday for lunch. Iknow, iknow, this is not a food blog but I just struggle not to write about it since food is taking up a lot of my time at the moment.

Along the coast

Took a drive this morning, (I'm jet lagged and woke up at 3 am!) A couple of minutes from our hotel is Balboa Island, a half island with a small town feeling to it.
The pictures are taken at Balboa Island in Newport Beach. A fantastic small half island in Orange County. Its like a small town in the town, if that makes any sense. We stopped for lunch at Newport Pier, I had the HUGE lobster taco in the picture above. This island is well worth a visit if you are in the area.
Magical sunset! Sashimi and seagull looking himself in the mirror...

måndag 5 december 2011

Hi everyone, will be a bit slower with updates this week. Im in Los Angeles having a good time. The Christmas feeling is all over the place here and Im enjoying good coffee and no potholes in the streets!
You know you have stayed a long time in Lagos when the first comment from your husband when you are driving from the airport is "The roads are so wide and NO potholes!!" See you soon kids!

Coffee and sandwich in perfect combination
When I walked to the office the other morning I stopped at a coffee shop on Götgatsbacken selling delicious treats and coffee for the early birds.

The sun rises quite late these days and sets around 3pm! This is to little light in my opinion to be able to function on full capacity.

To cook a girls night in

The perfect ingredients for a girls night in, candy, girlfriends, candle light, laughter, fantastic food, cozy apartment, good music and plenty of things to chit chat about!
From left, me, Plot, Cami, Nellie and Jull
I have known these girls for 10 years now. We went to the same high school and has been friends in one way or another since then.

First Sunday of Advent

Yesterday large parts of the family went to see and listen to my amazingly skilled cousin Helene Kimblad, she is a fantastic singer and it was such a blessing listening to her share the christmas spirit with the audience. The consert was held together with Hanna Wåhlin and also Järfälla Musikkår.

My adorable grand mother!
After the concert we had nice food. On the picture you can see Katarina, she is one of my oldest friends, or rather one of my friends that I have known for the longest. (coz I have friends that are older than her). We grew up as neighbors and she is considered to be family! I had Biff Rydberg, yummie!

For you people out there that still haven’t gotten the opportunity to get to know Kattis, I feel sorry for you! She always comes with the biggest smile and the biggest hart, amazing cook and she always makes people laugh with her funny ways! So next time you are in Stockholm, email me first and I will give you her contacts.
To celebrate my homecoming my fantastic mother has baked saffron buns for us to eat as the start of advent for Christmas.
Stockholm will always be very close to my heart. Sometimes when I come back here after a long absence my heart just relaxes. The best thing with Stockholm is that it is on the water and the shifting seasons changes the colors for every time I’m home.

My ingredients for a good day at the beach, a good book, "Where we once walked" about pre-war Helsinki, sea shells, sunglasses and the most important one, coffee.

Everyday observations in Lagos

The police is very present at all times

This smiling ice cream eating couple was just so adorable so I had to snap them out side KFC
Lagos seen from Eko hotel. Also the Eje statue under Falamo Bridge.
Okadas! Probably the most popular mean of transport in Lagos
Transport of water or gasoline...
